Found this online - it was written by an American poet called Adrienne Rich.
I'd never heard of her before and know nothing about her. I don't know the context in which she wrote the poem, and have no context of my own to add.
But I liked it, so here it is.
My heart is moved by all I cannot save:
So much has been destroyed
I have to cast my lot with those
Who, age after age, perversely
With no extraordinary power
Reconstitute the world.
